Research Associate
Background
Krishna is from Hyderabad, India, where he achieved his Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology before moving to Edinburgh, UK for a Master's degree in Bioinformatics. As part of his thesis, he worked at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology on 'Network annotations for Telomerase studies'. He moved down south to pursue his Doctoral studies in Computational Biology and Chemogenomics at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, under the supervision of Dr. Bissan Al-lazikani. This work involved identifying and analysing 3D conformational mobility in Protein Kinases towards understanding the impact on drug binding site architecture. This work is being utilised as part of the Cancer Therapeutics Unit at ICR for novel approaches to Cancer drug discovery.
Current Research
Krishna joined the Department of Chemistry, Cambridge, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Bender Group in February 2014. He is working as part of a sub-team on an exciting and challenging project called 'Compound Combination Modeling'. The aim of this study is to exploit the wealth of biological and chemical knowledge available in the public domain to generate biologically meaningful mode-of-action hypotheses for combinations of chemicals. This will be achieved by integrating compound structures, their bioactivities against protein targets as well as pathway annotations. This will enable efficient modelling and predicting the additive, synergistic or antagonistic behaviour of compound combinations.
